Three members of a medical helicopter crew have died in a crash in Kentucky, ABC News reported today.

According to the aviation company “Air Evac Lifeteam,” the three deceased were on their way to pick up a patient.

“This was a terrible accident and we extend our condolences to the families and friends of the employees,” the company said in a statement.

The National Transportation Safety Board has announced it is investigating the crash.

In a statement, Air Evac Lifeteam said one of its helicopters – Air Evac 133 – crashed while responding to an emergency call around 6 p.m.

According to Kentucky State Police, the victims – Gayle Aleman, Bethany Aiken, and James Welsh – were pronounced dead at the scene.

The three were outside of Grant County and were on their way to pick up a patient when the accident occurred.
