Today is the feast of the Holy Three Hierarchs, the holiday of Christian teachers, Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom, whose theological teachings marked the Byzantine church of the 11th century.

Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom, three ecumenical teachers, whom the Church ranked among the saints, were the subject of great theological disputes.

The debate, both among the people and among the priests, about which saint was greater, threatened to split the faith. The dispute was ended in 1084, during the reign of Emperor Alexius I Comnenus, with the introduction of a common holiday.

In Orthodox churches, liturgies are served in honor of the saints who have taken a high place in the history of the Christian church – Basil the Great, rhetorician, philosopher, and writer of holy liturgies, Gregory the Theologian, bishop of Constantinople, and John Chrysostom, great orator and interpreter of the Holy Scriptures.

The Holy Three Hierarchs enjoy great respect in our nation, where they have long been the patron saint of metalworkers. They are celebrated as a family patron saint. In Greece, they are also a church, national, and school holiday.

According to what kind of winds are blowing today, it is predicted what kind of weather awaits us during the year.

It is believed that the year will be good and rich if the south wind blows, and that the “north wind” brings a bad year with cold weather.

The east wind brings shortages, and the west wind brings an abundance of fish and milk.

If there is no wind, a rich year awaits us.
