Carlos Alcaraz achieved his 21st consecutive victory at Wimbledon, but the main topic at the press conference was—Novak Djokovic.
The young Spanish champion, who previously won Rome, Roland Garros, and Queen’s, spoke with great respect about the Serbian tennis ace.
“I believe Djokovic is the smartest person on the court. He is, without a doubt, the player who possesses the best knowledge of this sport. With his experience and everything he has been through on the tennis court, but also after watching many of his matches, I am convinced that he has the most knowledge about this sport,” said Alcaraz.
Although he often has the opportunity to talk and train with Novak, Alcaraz says he never asks specific questions about the game. “Many times I’ve talked with Novak. I’ve watched his matches, trained with him, watched his practices. But we never talk about tennis. I prefer to talk about other things with him, about life. I try to learn about his tennis, about the way he trains, the way he plays, but always by observing from the outside.”
He then added:
“I love watching his tennis, the way he moves, plays, and trains. It inspires me.”
He also commented on his 21-match winning streak.
“I haven’t played my best in all those matches, but I’ve managed to stay calm in complicated moments. I think I’m currently playing the best tennis of my career.”
Alcaraz is one of the main favorites for the title at the third Grand Slam of the season, and all eyes are on a potential new clash with Djokovic—perhaps even in the final.
