Health workers employed at the KBC Kosovska Mitrovica and health centers in four northern municipalities organized a protest gathering regarding last night’s raid by members of the so-called Kosovo police into the security premises of the KBC Kosovska Mitrovica and the Kosovska Mitrovica Health Center.

The workers carried banners that read: “We want to be treated freely”, “Our doctors, our patients, our KBC”, “Hands off the hospital”, “America, react, Serbs are disappearing” and “Europe, protect our rights”.

Immediately after the raid, the Serbian List contacted the embassies of all Quint countries, the EU Mission, Unmik, Oebs and Kfor.

It was requested that Kfor and Eulex members be deployed as soon as possible in the immediate vicinity of health and educational institutions, and thus prevent such raids that endanger the work of institutions and the treatment of citizens.

The director of KBC Kosovska Mitrovica, Zlatan Elek, pointed out that nowhere is the integration of the Serbian health and education system into the Kosovo system stated.

“Last night, Kurti’s police forces raided the security premises in the KBC and the Health Center. Honest workers work here who honestly earn their salary by providing help to everyone who needs it. They harassed the security workers, asking them for IDs and information about the number of workers in the KBC. We are sending a special call to international representatives to stop these raids, if they do not, it will be clear to everyone whose side they have taken. There is no integration of the Serbian health and education system into the Kosovo system. That does not exist in the Ahtisaari plan, nor in the Brussels, nor in the Ohrid agreement,” said Elek.

Dr. Elek asked the workers to remain calm.

“If they raid our institutions, I ask you to be calm and patient and for all of us to come together and be there with our patients. We have nowhere to go, this is our home and our duty is to be with our patients. This is a message to international institutions that these are red lines that they guaranteed would not be crossed. It is finally time, gentlemen, to move from words to deeds, and the rights of all are clear, and from here we say that we have our rights and that we will not integrate into the Kosovo system. Go to the elections on October 12 and show with a pencil that we will return our municipalities to our hands. Long live the health system, long live our institutions and long live the state of Serbia,” added Elek.

The deputy director of KBC Kosovska Mitrovica, Dragiša Milović, pointed out that everyone is treated in that health institution, that it is the only multi-ethnic hospital in Kosovo and Metohija, and, as he emphasized, unfortunately some people don’t like that. He also asked what kind of multi-ethnicity it is when there is not a single Serb among a hundred notaries.

DR Milović added that the institution will continue to provide health services, and asked for unity.

The gathering of health workers ended without incident, and after the gathering, the workers returned to their workplaces.
