The Serbian national team, under the auspices of the Serbian Association of Dance Organizations (SAPO), won ten medals at the World Dance Championship recently held in Belgium – four gold and four silver each, and two bronze. At this championship, which featured nearly 3,500 competitors from 35 countries across three continents, our country was represented by members of SAPO dance organizations, primarily from the clubs “Dance Factory” and RIS.

This is the twelfth consecutive year that the Serbian national team has brought home medals from the largest international competitions. This time, it was composed of 50 male and female dancers in all age groups – children, juniors, and seniors.

The honors were won by – in the children’s competition, gold: Mila Popović – solo contemporary; Mila Popović and Petra Nenezić – contemporary duo; group – contemporary, formation – contemporary. In the junior competition, two silvers – Lana Subotić and Nera Grujčić – contemporary duo, Nataša Spremo and Nađa Dukić – contemporary duo; and bronze: Vladislav Šebek – solo contemporary.

In the senior competition, the best result – a silver medal – was achieved by Maša Janjušević (solo, contemporary). Serbian competitors achieved high rankings on several other occasions. Fourth place went to Antonina Ćurčić (children, contemporary) in the solo competition and in a pair with Andrea Zeković, as well as the juniors (contemporary formation); in fifth position was Nataša Spremo (solo, juniors), sixth – Nataša Spremo and Lucija Simović (duo, juniors, contemporary), seventh – Maša Janjušević (solo jazz seniors), eighth – jazz formation juniors; and ninth – group, contemporary, juniors.

The coaches and choreographers of the national team were: Staša Stojanović, Nataša Gvozdenović, Magdalena Ivanović, Kristina Jelić, Nina Popović, Đurđina Ivanković, Katarina Anić, Nađa Lukić (all from “Dance Factory”); Tamara Popović, Lea Abinun, Miloš Isailović, Milica Bezmarević, Helena Ćelap, Nevena Kmezić, Maša Janjušević, Nina Vukić (all from RIS).

It should also be mentioned that international judge Miodrag Kastratović represented Serbia on the jury and gave additional credibility to our country’s presence on the world dance scene.
