Students blocking the Belgrade University, who have been blockading faculties for 10 months demanding accountability for the death of 16 victims in the canopy collapse at the Novi Sad Railway Station, are setting off on foot for a protest in that city on November 1. As Nova.rs learns, around 4,000 students will join this march.
Students blocking the Belgrade University, who have been blockading faculties for 10 months demanding accountability for the death of 16 victims in the canopy collapse at the Novi Sad Railway Station, have begun preparations for their participation in the protest on November 1, to which they were invited by their colleagues from Novi Sad.
As Nova.rs learns, about 4,000 students will start the journey to Novi Sad on foot on October 31, the day before the anniversary of the tragedy.
The students participating in this walk to Novi Sad have neither confirmed nor denied this information.
They emphasize that they are not sure how many of them there will be, but that the interest is truly great.
“The only official information we have, at least those of us from the University of Belgrade, is that we are definitely starting the walk to Novi Sad. The plan is to travel for two days, just as we did when we blocked three bridges with the Novi Sad students. Now, the interest is great. We have great support from citizen assemblies, much greater than we had before, so I believe the group of walkers will be much, much larger than in February. That number is being mentioned somewhere, but who knows, maybe there will be more of us,” one of the students participating in the November 1 protest told Nova.rs.
The protest plan is not yet known, but according to Nova.rs’s information, students from other universities are also preparing to participate.
