At the 74th session of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO), held in Copenhagen from October 29 to 31, the Republic of Serbia was elected as a member of the WHO Executive Board, with a majority vote of 53 member states of the WHO for Europe.

Minister Lončar emphasized that this is a success for all citizens of Serbia and further confirmation that the progress of our health system is internationally recognized and appreciated.

“A great success for our healthcare, our citizens, and our country. Health knows no borders, and we must all contribute to the improvement and health of citizens,” Lončar pointed out.

The WHO Executive Board for Europe has 8 members who are elected for a three-year term. The main function of the Executive Board is to implement the decisions and policies of the World Health Assembly, to advise it, and to facilitate its work.

In addition to the candidacy of the Republic of Serbia, representatives from Kazakhstan and Armenia also applied for a seat on the WHO Executive Board.

The significance of the participation of the Republic of Serbia’s delegation is also reflected in the fact that this meeting is attended by the highest-ranking officials of the health systems of European countries and other international organizations, which represents a unique opportunity for numerous bilateral meetings at the highest level.
