Danica Crnogorčević spoke out after her songs were played in the “Ćaciland” with the aim of provoking Dijana Hrka, the mother of the deceased Stefan who has been on a hunger strike in front of the Parliament in Belgrade for four days, as well as the citizens and students who have been gathering in large numbers at this location for three days to offer support to Hrka.
Danica Crnogorčević posted a statement on her Instagram, which we publish in full:
Forgive me. Dear brothers and sisters, In these days when we mark the anniversary of the canopy collapse, a day that left a deep wound and immense sorrow in our nation, we strongly condemn the playing of any music. We especially want to emphasize that our songs were also played in front of the Parliament in Belgrade, but we cannot accept or support this… that in these moments, when a mother who lost her child stands there, any song is heard instead of silence. I believe that in such painful moments, respect, dignity, and silence should be shown. There is no song that can overcome pain, and that is why we believe that the greatest sign of respect is silence and prayer for the departed. Music must never divide people; it exists to unite us, to connect us, and not to open wounds. We express our condolences, for the umpteenth time, for all those who died, but not through music, but through prayer and dignified silence.
