Firefighters continue to battle devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. The death toll has risen to ten, while damages are estimated at around $150 billion. Authorities are considering imposing a curfew, both due to the dangers posed by the fires and the increasing number of thefts. So far, 20 people have been detained for looting.
Authorities are working on establishing a curfew in the Palisades and Eaton areas to prevent further looting, said Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna.
Luna stated that details are being worked out but expressed hope that a curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM could be implemented by tonight, according to the Los Angeles Times.

20 Arrested for Looting During Fires
At least 20 people have been arrested in Los Angeles County for looting during the wildfires raging in the area, said County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
She referred to the looters as “opportunists.” “I will not stand by and allow this traumatic experience to be worsened further,” Barger said during a press conference, CNN reports.
The two largest fires, in Palisades and Eaton, have formed a “clamp” around the city, so large that they are visible from space.

Damage Estimated at $150 Billion; Biden: Federal Government Will Cover All Costs
President Joe Biden, who declared a disaster on Tuesday, promised that the federal government would cover 100% of recovery costs for the next 180 days, including debris removal, hazardous material cleanup, temporary housing, and emergency personnel salaries.
“I told the governor and local officials not to spare any resources and to do whatever it takes to contain these fires,” Biden said.
The company AccuWeather estimated the damages at between $135 billion and $150 billion.
The wildfires in the Los Angeles area of California have claimed the lives of at least ten people, destroyed nearly 10,000 structures, and left around 180,000 residents still under evacuation orders.
“The danger is far from over,” said Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said during a press conference, “It looks like an atomic bomb has been dropped on these areas.”
