President Donald Trump has pardoned Rod Blagojević, an American politician of Serbian descent and former governor of Illinois, and our reporter was on the scene, outside Blagojević’s home, where he addressed the media.
Blagojević served eight years in prison on corruption charges before Trump granted him clemency in 2020, during his first term. The former governor began his statement to the press by expressing gratitude to the new president.
“They used the judicial system for a political takedown. I did not break any laws, I did not cross the line, I did not take a single penny, yet I was convicted for a simple political conversation,” Blagojević emphasized.
Among other things, he spoke about his recent visit to Serbia, his meeting with President Vučić, and revealed that he traveled to Serbia for business reasons.
Watch what Blagojević had to say about the ambassadorship in Belgrade, who will be to blame if he does not accept a government position, his time in prison, his experiences in Serbia, and his response to our editor’s question about whether he will run for mayor of Chicago in the 2026 elections.
