Today, delegations from Ukraine, the US, and EU allies are meeting in Geneva to consider the American 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine.

High-ranking officials from the United States, Ukraine, as well as national security advisors from France, Great Britain, and Germany, will meet today in Geneva to discuss the American draft plan to end the war in Ukraine.

Key EU Principles for a Just and Lasting Peace

Von der Leyen highlighted the main elements that the EU has agreed upon:

  • Borders cannot be changed by force.
  • As a sovereign state, Ukraine cannot have restrictions on its armed forces that would leave it vulnerable to future attacks and thus endanger European security as well.
  • The European Union must have a central role in securing peace.
  • Ukraine must have the freedom and sovereign right to choose its own future, and it has chosen a European future.

Ursula von der Leyen: “Ukraine’s Borders Cannot Be Changed by Force, Nor Should Its Military Be Reduced”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that Ukraine’s borders cannot be changed by force, that there is no question of reducing the Ukrainian military in a way that would leave the country vulnerable to future attacks, and that the European Union must have a central role in any peace agreement.

Her statement comes at a time when top officials from the US, Ukraine, and national security advisors from France, Great Britain, and Germany are holding talks in Geneva regarding the American draft plan to end the war.

– Any credible and sustainable peace plan must, first and foremost, stop the killing and end the war, but it must also not sow the seeds of a future conflict – stated von der Leyen.
