President of Russia Vladimir Putin has declared an Easter ceasefire. It begins today at 6 p.m. Moscow time and will last until midnight from Sunday to Monday.

“The ceasefire will show whether the Kyiv regime is ready and capable of resolving the crisis peacefully,” said the Russian president.

He stated that Russia is halting combat operations and expects Kyiv to do the same.

“The Russian side assumes that Ukraine will follow its example and cease hostilities,” he said during a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, Valery Gerasimov.

Putin said that the Russian army must be prepared to act in the event of a potential ceasefire violation or provocations by the enemy.

Putin emphasized that the situation in the Special Military Operation (SMO) zone is favorable for Russia.

“The situation along the line of contact is favorable, and the Russian army is advancing,” he said.

Speaking about the moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure facilities, which recently expired, the Russian leader stated that Ukraine had violated the moratorium more than 100 times.

The Russian president extended Easter greetings to all fighters in the SMO zone and to all citizens.

Gerasimov informed Putin that six Russian army groups in the SMO zone are on the offensive in 11 directions.

According to him, the main part of the Kursk region previously occupied by Ukrainian forces has now been liberated—1,260 square kilometers, or 99.5 percent.

Only two places remain—Oneshnya and Gornal—near which fighting is still ongoing.

Gerasimov also said that Russian forces thwarted an attempt by the Ukrainian army to enter the territory of the Belgorod region.

“The areas into which the enemy tried to break through have been isolated, and the liquidation of Ukrainian soldiers is underway,” he stated, according to Sputnik.
