The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia has called on all Serbian citizens who are in Iran to leave the country, and those planning to travel there to cancel their trip.
The warning was issued, the statement says, due to the “deteriorated security situation and increased risk to personal safety in Iran.”
As major tensions persist between Iran and the United States over the violent suppression of widespread protests in Iran, the country early this morning, without explanation, closed its airspace to commercial flights for four hours.
In operations by security forces against demonstrators, 2,615 people have been killed, according to an independent human rights protection network based in the United States.
The death toll exceeds the number in any round of protests or unrest in Iran over several decades and recalls the chaos during the “Islamic Revolution” of 1979, when the current regime was established.
