Students of the State University in Novi Pazar, Hamza Ziljkić and Nikola Marjanović, who were detained on Sunday on suspicion of the alleged criminal offense of undermining the constitutional order, have been remanded in custody for 30 days.
This was confirmed for N1 by lawyer Majda Toković.
Toković stated that the lawyers have filed an appeal against this decision of the Basic Court in Novi Pazar. Earlier today, they were brought to the building of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office where they were questioned in the presence of their lawyers.
Lawyer Esad Duljević told Sto plus radio that the pretrial judge ordered detention so that the students “would not influence witnesses, destroy evidence, or repeat the criminal offense,” which he said was copied from the prosecution’s proposal.
“The search found neither weapons nor ammunition. And preparatory actions for the subversion of the constitutional order, namely, the assassination of the highest representatives of the authorities, refer to the acquisition and preparation of weapons. Consequently, there is not a single objective element of the essence of the criminal offense. They are acting according to orders, not according to the law,” Duljević said.
He announced that he would file an appeal against the decision to order detention.
“The detention was ordered by judge Munir Jusović, and the acting prosecutor is Sanja Mrlješ. When the previous president of the Basic Court, Edin Hodžić, was dismissed, this was conceived and it was just a matter of waiting for who would implement it. With the appointment of the acting president (Predrag) Živković and the placement of those he can influence, the realization began,” Duljević said.
From early morning, several dozen citizens gathered in front of the court and prosecutor’s office building to support the students, while the facility was secured by strong police forces.
