Dijana Hrka, the mother of Stefan, one of the 16 victims of the canopy collapse at the Novi Sad Railway Station, who has been on a hunger strike near the Serbian Parliament and Ćaciland since 11:52 AM (where music is still blasting at midnight), told N1 that it is very ugly of the police that, despite their large numbers, “five ‘ćaci’ ran out, attacked the people, they went after our people, and one of the policemen said, ‘you are to blame,’ meaning they started lying from the beginning.”
“Today, when I called the BIA (Security Information Agency) to ask them why they are doing this, they claimed I didn’t want to cooperate. You don’t ask to talk to someone at five minutes to twelve; they should have come and asked to talk to me before, not a year later. There will be no talks with anyone; they want to destroy everything that is Serbian. We don’t need a state like this, we have no law. If I am being hit with pyrotechnics, our people are being hit with powerful firecrackers, right next to the police, what law, what state, what police,” Hrka said, expressing her revolt.
She stressed that “if anything happens to these people, the police will be to blame for everything.”
Regarding how she interprets Vučić’s statement that yesterday’s memorial gathering in Novi Sad was a debacle, she says she thinks he “was not well after Novi Sad.”
And concerning his comment calling the citizens supporting her “cowards,” she states that “if anyone is a coward, it is our president Aleksandar Vučić.”
When asked what she thinks will happen in the coming period and if her demands will be met, she says, “given that they are insolent, and that this police is moving against its own people, let a few days pass, we’ll see what happens.”
She also expects the authorities to address her and the other citizens.
“I am staying here, this is now my home until the demands are met. Whether I leave on my feet or in a hospital bed, that depends on them,” she emphasized.
She also assessed that the authorities are calling for bloodshed and, based on what is happening now, she believes they are not ready to talk or meet her demands.
Dijana Hrka is demanding justice for her son and all the victims of the canopy collapse in Novi Sad, the release of all students because “they are the future of Serbia, they are not cowards like the president,” and the calling of elections.
