A forum titled “Serbs, a Nation in Decline,” organized by the “Serbian World Council of Unity,” was held from October 25 to 27 at the Prohor Pčinjski Monastery. This event brought together representatives of politics, culture, sociology, journalism, as well as members of the diaspora and the church, with the aim of analyzing the demographic, social, and cultural challenges facing the Serbian people.
Serious problems such as a low birth rate, a high level of emigration, and an aging population were highlighted in the discussions. Participants emphasized the need for urgent measures to encourage people, especially young people, to stay in rural and urban areas.
Economic stability and support for young families were also in focus. Participants agreed on the need to improve employment and education conditions so that young people could see a future in Serbia.
The diaspora was recognized as a key partner in preserving the Serbian identity and encouraging the return of young people to their homeland. Developing strategies for closer ties between the diaspora and Serbia is considered an important step.

The forum also highlighted the importance of preserving culture and language, especially in educational institutions. Introducing Serbian as an elective subject in schools in the diaspora can significantly contribute to preserving cultural identity.
In addition, participants called on the state to formulate a clear demographic and family policy with concrete measures and incentives to increase the birth rate and prevent emigration.
Finally, the “Milka model” was proposed, which involves a membership fee of 1 dollar, euro, or franc per Serb in the diaspora and homeland. The funds raised through this model will be directed towards preserving culture, supporting education, connecting the diaspora, and providing humanitarian aid.
The organizers invite all Serbs to join this initiative, emphasizing the importance of creating a strong and connected Serbian community.
