The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, will today, together with the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, attend the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the genocide crimes committed by the NDH at the Jasenovac concentration camp and its largest execution site in Donja Gradina.

As announced by the press service of the President of Serbia, the program includes the laying of wreaths at the Topole burial field, after which a memorial service will be held on the plateau next to this burial field, followed by official addresses.

The office of the President of Republika Srpska had earlier announced that Milorad Dodik would attend the commemoration in Donja Gradina on Sunday, marking the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the genocide against Serbs, Jews, and Roma in the Independent State of Croatia, as well as the 80th anniversary of the breakthrough of inmates from the Jasenovac concentration camp.

The Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Ustaše crime – genocide in the Jasenovac concentration camp and its largest execution site, Donja Gradina – is jointly commemorated by the governments of Republika Srpska and Serbia.

The NDH death camp system encompassed around 80 camps, with Donja Gradina, formed in August 1941, serving as the largest execution site within the Jasenovac concentration camp system.

The last surviving prisoners of the Ustaše-run Jasenovac concentration camp began their breakout on April 22, 1945, to escape the death factory, the largest in Southeastern Europe.

According to the Donja Gradina Memorial Site, during World War II, 700,000 victims of Ustaše crimes perished at the infamous Jasenovac camp, including 500,000 Serbs, 40,000 Roma, 33,000 Jews, and 127,000 anti-fascists.

Among the victims at Jasenovac were 20,000 children.

The Government of Republika Srpska has declared April 27 as a Day of Mourning in memory of the victims of the Ustaše genocide against Serbs, Jews, and Roma in the NDH from 1941 to 1945.
