Search conditions in Donja Jablanica have improved slightly today, as the rain has stopped, allowing rescuers to continue their search for victims of the devastating flood and landslide in full capacity.
Sabahudin Spahović from the Federal Civil Protection Administration said that there are many things that rescuers will remember forever when it comes to Donja Jablanica, but the rescue of a child shortly after the disaster is particularly etched in his memory.

It is truly a miracle that the child survived this catastrophe, as they were found under a two-ton slab.
“What will remain in my memory for the rest of my life, something I will never be able to erase from my mind, is certainly finding a small child. Alive, under a slab that weighed at least two tons. Together with the locals and everyone else who was there, we managed to pull the child out alive and transport them to the nearest medical facility. This morning I received information that the child is healthy and that everything they need has been provided”, Spahović added.
According to Spahović, in addition to members of the FUCZ, there are also rescuers with dogs and members of the HUSAR team from Croatia on the scene. This is the first team to be engaged in Jablanica through the international civil protection coordination mechanism and the Ministry of Security of BiH.
“Now there are three licensed dogs on the ground searching for dead people. They managed to detect victims. In three places, the dog gave a signal and we are waiting for conditions to improve, as it is very difficult to reach those places, to try to break through to the potential bodies of the victims with machines and rescuers”, Spahović told “Avaz”.
The entire region is connected by solidarity, humanity, and a desire to help the survivors of the disaster in Jablanica. While thanking everyone who is helping, Spahović appeals that rescuers do not currently need help with manpower but with mechanization.
“We don’t need help with people, we need help with trucks, excavators, and everything else that will be useful to us in the field so that we can start to remove the severe consequences of this disaster. The moment we get to the point of starting to clear objects and everything else we have here, then we will appeal through the media and social networks for help with manpower. Until then, I ask everyone to be patient, especially not to start spontaneously on the road, because that way they create a problem for us, the police, and everyone else”, says Sabahudin Spahović, a member of the FUCZ.
