The Appeals Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has rejected the appeal of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) against the decision of the Central Election Commission of BiH to annul the results of the snap elections for President of Republika Srpska at 136 polling stations in 17 municipalities and cities in this entity, Sarajevo media reported this evening.
The court also rejected the appeal of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) to repeat the elections at all polling stations in three cities – Doboj, Zvornik and Laktaši.
As stated, the CEC is expected to make a decision tomorrow on the date for repeating the elections at these 136 polling stations.
Opposition candidate Branko Blanuša (SDS) is entering the new race with an advantage of 6,245 votes, given that at most of the polling stations where the elections were annulled, SNSD candidate Siniša Karan had a large advantage.
The elections were annulled due to numerous established irregularities; among other things, a certain number of voters voted without valid documents, and during the counting process, as stated in the announcement, votes were taken away from Blanuša and added to Karan.
The snap presidential elections in Republika Srpska were held on November 23, after the CEC stripped Dodik of his mandate as President of Republika Srpska in early August, based on a final verdict of the Court of BiH, by which he was sentenced to one year in prison and banned from holding public office for six years for failing to implement decisions of the High Representative in BiH.
On December 15, the CEC adopted a decision establishing and publishing the results of the snap elections for President of Republika Srpska held on November 23.
According to that decision, Siniša Karan, the candidate of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), won 222,182 votes or 50.39 percent, while Branko Blanuša, the candidate of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS), received 212,605 votes or 48.22 percent.
