The Higher Court in Novi Sad has decided to place S.B., B.J., L.Č., R.G., S.T., V.Š., and Đ.M., who are suspected of abuse of official position, money laundering, and tax evasion, under house arrest with a ban on meeting and communicating with witnesses, the court told FoNet today.
The imposed measures can last as long as necessary, but no longer than until the judgment becomes final, or until they are sent to serve a custodial sentence. The court is obliged to review every three months whether the continued duration of the measure is justified.
The suspects have been warned that if they violate the imposed prohibitions, a stricter measure may be imposed against them.
Appeals against these decisions are permitted to the extra-panel chamber of the Special Department for Suppression of Corruption of this court.
On June 11, the police arrested six individuals employed at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, including the dean of the faculty, S. B., who are suspected of having unlawfully damaged the state budget by over 181 million dinars.
