A video appeared on social media showing the police charging at citizens with police vans during a blockade in Vojvode Stepe.

Four police vans with flashing lights in four lanes charged into citizens who were blocking the street in Vojvode Stepe.

As seen in the videos, citizens fled from the police vehicles that started at full throttle towards the gathered crowd.

Students participating in the blockade announced that 16 people were arrested this morning on this street.

Recall that blockades of several intersections and streets began last night across Serbia.

“Police tripped, trampled, and arrested people”

A citizen who witnessed the police action in Vojvode Stepe Street, Ivan Ćosić, explained to N1 exactly what happened.

“Around four, police inspectors arrived. We didn’t even know who they were, as they came in unmarked vehicles. One of us went to talk to them. They introduced themselves as police inspectors. One of them came and introduced himself as the chief. He had an assistant who filmed everything and told us to leave the location… They didn’t want to back down from the order. The Gendarmerie came after them and started pushing people back,” Ivan told N1.

He also said that the protest was peaceful, but that a large number of people were present at the blockades in Voždovac.

When asked by N1 if he fears for his safety, he said:

“We are afraid for our safety. This is repression from 2000, from the period during COVID… We have seen such repressions. However, there are too many intersections in Serbia. They cannot send the Gendarmerie to every single one,” he said.
