The Church of St. Simeon the Myrrh-streaming in South Chicago celebrated its temple feast day yesterday in the presence of a large number of parishioners and guests.
The Hierarchical Liturgy was served by His Eminence Metropolitan Longin, who afterward held an appropriate sermon, in which he instructed those present about the role and significance of the father and parent of St. Sava and the progenitor of the holy lineage, Saint Simeon, but also about the significance of the Christian virtue of forgiveness.
Numerous priests, brothers and sisters from the surrounding area, with a local city councilman and Serbian diplomats, were present at the banquet.
The church expressed gratitude to the Janjus family, the godparents of the feast, and everyone who organized and prepared the feast gathering.
Due to several decades of priestly service and years of work in church education, Metropolitan Longin decorated the priest, Father Mile Subotic, with the rank of archpriest.
“This decoration, which I humbly accept, is a great blessing and an obligation to responsibly serve God and my people. Above all, a big thank you to my family for their support and patience. I also thank my church family, with whom priestly service and scientific-educational work gain meaning in Christ. May the upcoming Great Lent be quiet for us all. Forgive! I forgive!”, stated Father Mile.
