Unknown perpetrators broke into the Church of St. Demetrius in the village of Dobrotin in central Kosovo and Metohija last night, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija announced. The robbers forced open the entrance door of the church and stole a box containing money from voluntary donations made by believers.
The Office recalls that this is not the first time the said shrine has been targeted by vandals. This is the second attack in the past few years, considering that three years ago the office of the Dobrotin parish had already been broken into.
This incident is part of a series of increasingly frequent attacks on Serbian property and religious sites in the central part of Kosovo and Metohija. Just ten days ago, graffiti of the terrorist organization Kosovo Liberation Army was written on the Health Center and kindergarten in the same village. Also, recently in the village of Skulanevo near Lipljan, the grave of Ivica Talić was desecrated, and the Serbian tricolor was taken from it.
In the statement, it is assessed that such attacks on Serbs, the property of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and the desecration of graves are a direct consequence of the extremist and anti-Serb policies of Pristina. The Office emphasizes that an additional problem is the policy of impunity for perpetrators, who as a rule go without any sanctions for their misdeeds.
The Office for KiM demands a more decisive and concrete reaction from international representatives regarding these events.
“Only in this way can such ethnically motivated incidents be stopped, of which there have been more than 730 since Albin Kurti came to power,” the statement says.
It particularly points to the alarming fact that in the past year alone, 26 attacks have been recorded targeting Serbian believers, cemeteries, and facilities of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and that the perpetrators of those attacks have never been identified or prosecuted.
