Employees and parents of students at the Aeronautical Academy in Belgrade did not allow the new acting director Srđan Čokorilo and the temporary School Board, who were appointed by the Ministry of Education, to take office in the school today.
As the portal Nova.rs reports, parents and employees escorted Čokorilo and the forced administration out of the school with boos and noise.
Parents and Professors “Calm” for Today, But They State: We Won’t Give Up the Academy
As the gathered people told the portal, they are “calm” for today, but they will arrange shifts and duties at the school, otherwise, “Čokorilo will occupy the Academy.” “We all stood in defense and for the interest of the students. They couldn’t fight. First, the security left the hall because they have no legal basis to be present, those muscular guys. And then, when we raised our voices, they all left too. They saw that they wouldn’t be able to do anything today,” said a source for Nova.rs who was present at that meeting.
The Ministry of Education announced today that with a temporary measure, it has dismissed the School Board of the “Aeronautical Academy” High School and appointed a temporary School Board whose task is to enable conditions for teaching.
“Due to the obstructions by a part of the teachers and the School Board of the ‘Aeronautical Academy’ High School which are preventing the teaching and endangering the students’ right to education, the Ministry of Education is introducing temporary measures in this educational institution, based on the measures ordered by an extraordinary inspection supervision,” the statement said.
Employees Demand the Fulfillment of Conditions to Start Classes
Employees at the Aeronautical Academy announced earlier that they would start classes if their demands were fulfilled.
They requested that the Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stanković appoint a director in accordance with the law, the opinion of the Teachers’ Council, and the decision of the Aeronautical Academy School Board and that the Government of Serbia annul the decisions on the seizure of property rights for that high school.
The employees also announced earlier today that they had received official documentation confirming that, in addition to property and equipment in Vršac, the Aeronautical Academy’s property in Belgrade is also being unlawfully seized – the buildings, equipment, as well as the new Airbus A320 flight simulator, acquired with European Union funds.
They stated that the school has the right to use the property specifically allocated by a contract from the city of Belgrade until 2037, and that if the property were to be seized, the Aeronautical Academy would lose the criteria based on which it received authorizations for the education of aviation personnel from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
