The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Niš, Aleksandar Mitić, confirmed for Beta agency that the higher education institution will switch to regular operation tomorrow, June 9.
“The blockade ended at the insistence of the students, to whom I sincerely express my gratitude. I am grateful to all the students for recognizing the importance of returning to classes and I wish them all the best,” said Mitić.
He said that the faculty administration will need a couple of days to resolve technical issues in order to transition from online to regular lectures.
The Faculty of Medicine in Niš is the first faculty of the Niš University that will begin regular classes.
This higher education institution was also the first, in mid-April, to decide on online compensation for classes, which led students to block the entrance to the building and prevent both teaching and non-teaching staff from entering.
The return of the Faculty of Medicine to regular operation was first announced by the Dean’s Collegium, which stated on June 5 that, following an agreement with the students, the teaching process and the work of professional services are expected to fully normalize in the coming days.
On June 6, the Instagram page “mefakni_blokada” posted: “Return to classes – the fight continues.”
A large number of students and citizens commented on this decision, and opinions are divided on whether the blockade should be continued or suspended.
The decision to block the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Niš was made by the students of that faculty on December 16 of last year.
