Joe Biden, just before leaving the White House, issued a presidential decree granting preemptive pardons to members of his family:
“My family has been subjected to relentless attacks and threats, motivated solely by the desire to inflict harm upon me—the worst kind of partisan politics. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe these attacks will cease,” the statement reads, adding:

“Therefore, I am using my constitutional authority to pardon James B. Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John T. Owens, and Francis V. Biden.”
