The police investigation in Bosanska Krupa has been completed after a minor killed one policeman and seriously injured another at the police station. Adnan Beganović, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior of the Unsko-Sanski Canton, said that the investigation will determine the exact causes and motives for this act.

“The prosecution has concluded that the described event bears the hallmarks of a criminal offense under Article 201 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of BiH, i.e., ‘terrorism’. The investigation is still ongoing to determine the causes and motives,” Beganović said.

The attacker entered the police station and, with a knife, first attacked one policeman, who immediately succumbed to his injuries. Then he attacked another, who was seriously injured and immediately transported to the Dr. Irfan Ljubljankić Cantonal Hospital and is in stable condition.

Klix reports that before attacking the police station, the attacker sent strange messages to acquaintances, saying goodbye to them. Those who knew him say he was prone to religious extremism.

Identity of the killed policeman revealed

As confirmed to the “Avaz” team, the killed policeman is Ognjen Maran from Bosanski Novi, while the injured policeman is Avdo Hasanović from Bosanska Krupa.

On the streets of Bosanska Krupa since early this morning, there has been a large number of police officers, members of the Special Unit, uniformed police, and inspectors of the Ministry of Interior of USK are on the ground. The attacker was immediately arrested.

Minister of Police of USK: This is an alarm

The Minister of Police of the Unsko-Sanski Canton, Adnan Habibija, arrived in Bosanska Krupa last night, where one policeman was killed and another seriously injured.

Habibija expressed condolences to the family of the deceased policeman.

“What can I say except that this is a great tragedy. What especially surprised us all is that it was a minor offender who dared to enter the police station and attack police officers. I think this is really an alarm, where we as a society should ask ourselves what is happening here,” he said.

He added that the police and the prosecution of USK are doing their job, that the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina is also aware of the case, and expressed hope that the investigation will offer some additional details.

When asked how he comments on the fact that the attacker is a minor, the Minister of Police of USK said: “Humanly speaking, would you expect a 14-year-old to attack you with a knife? It is tragic that the policeman died.”

Mayor: We are shocked

Shortly after last night’s attack, the mayor of the city, Armin Halitović, addressed the media in Bosanska Krupa.

“Whatever we say about what happened in Bosanska Krupa is both too little and too much. We are a tolerant and peaceful city, and what happened has truly shocked us all. We simply cannot believe that this happened in Bosanska Krupa, because this is a city where there are no major problems,” Halitović said.

He also said that he hopes that the authorities will do their job and that all possible investigations into this event will be carried out.

“I also call on citizens to remain calm and not succumb to any stories, of which there will certainly be. I call on them to follow the portals moderately and to take all comments made about such a terrible thing, which can be malicious, with a grain of salt,” he added. Halitović also said that these were “abnormal circumstances” and addressed the families of the victims.

“I express my condolences to the families of the victims and wish the other policeman a speedy recovery,” added the mayor of Bosanska Krupa.

When asked what he expects in the coming days, Halitović says it will be “turbulent,” but also reminds that “such situations have not happened in Bosanska Krupa and I hope they will never happen again.”
