Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized today to neighboring countries that have been attacked and assured that Iran will not strike them unless they attack first.
“We do not intend to invade neighboring countries,” he said in a video message on Iranian state television, calling for regional cooperation to establish peace.
Pezeshkian stated that the Iranian Transitional Council, the body governing the country until a new Supreme Leader is elected, has decided to suspend attacks on neighboring states, except in cases where they initiate aggression, Mehr reports.
“The council decided yesterday not to attack or launch missiles at neighboring countries, except in the event of their attacks on Iran. We have said many times that they are our brothers. We must work together to establish peace and stability in the region,” he said.
Pezeshkian added that the armed forces have been instructed by leadership not to attack neighboring countries unless they are attacked first.
“Those who consider using this moment to attack Iran must not become puppets of imperialism,” he stressed, adding that supporting Israel or the US “is not the path to honor and freedom.”
He also warned that hostile plans demanding Iran’s unconditional surrender will fail and “must be buried.”
In the televised address, Pezeshkian expressed condolences for the deaths of the Supreme Leader of the revolution, military commanders, and innocent students, highlighting attacks on civilian centers such as hospitals and schools, Mehr reported.
“We are grateful to the noble people of our country who stand in place every night despite all hardships,” he said.
Pezeshkian emphasized that every Iranian, regardless of faith or origin, must defend the country’s integrity.
“Today we all must unite and defend our territory strongly, fight for our lives, and bring Iran out of this crisis,” the president said.
He reiterated that Iran adheres to international law and humanitarian principles, but warned that enemies have no right to ignore the country and its defensive actions.
“Our commanders have given their lives defending the country, and all necessary measures have been taken to defend ourselves with dignity and strength,” he concluded.
