Serbian tennis player Olga Danilović has achieved one of the biggest successes of her career by reaching the final of a tournament in China.
At the Guangzhou tournament, Serbian had a match in the final set handed to her by Katerina Siniakova (4:6, 6:4, 4:3, 40:0), the top seed in this competition and the best doubles player in the world and Olympic mixed doubles champion.
The Czech could no longer stand on her feet, and after just standing during a few points on Olga’s serve, she decided to retire.
Danilović had a break advantage at that moment and a good chance to get just one game away from victory, but the Czech ended their semifinal match early.
Olga has reached her third WTA final, but also her best ranking in her professional career – on the next list, she will be the 64th tennis player in the world if she loses, or the 53rd tennis player in the world if she wins the final match.
Olga Danilović made a break three times in the third set and reached the lead, but Siniakova returned to the match twice in the next game.
However, during the eighth game, she had no chance – a few minutes earlier she was given medical assistance, and then she only watched the balls that the Serbian tennis player sent to her side of the court. It was evident that the Czech could not play and that the end of the match was near.
Olga Danilović’s opponent in the final will be the winner of the Bronzetti – Dolehide duel, and it seems that against either of them, the Serbian tennis player will have a very good chance of winning the title.
As a reminder, Olga has previously won a WTA title at the Moscow tournament in 2018, and has also reached the final in Lausanne in 2022.
