At the main trial in the case against four SNS activists accused of beating several students and inflicting serious bodily harm upon them on the night of January 27-28 in Novi Sad, the defendants were questioned, and eight witnesses are expected to be heard in the proceedings.
All four defendants pleaded not guilty.
They all also refused to answer questions from the prosecutor, the authorized representatives of the injured parties, and the court.
Only the defendant D.R. admitted to being present near the Petefi Šandor school when the students were beaten but said he did not get out of the car.
The others denied being at the scene that night, stating that they had left the SNS premises before the incident, or, in the case of the defendant N.D., that he had not even been out of his apartment that evening.
All four stated that they voluntarily reported to the police when they saw in the media that a red Chevrolet was being sought, in order to clarify what happened, or to show that they were not guilty.
They also stated that at the police station, an officer insulted and threatened them, and then photographed them. They all believe that they are now before the court because of that photograph and asked the judge to revoke their detention measure and impose a milder one.
