The stay of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in Florida and his premature and sudden return to Serbia due to alleged poor health has caused much controversy and misinformation in the public, both Serbian and American.
In an attempt to find out what actually happened at the Mar-a-Lago complex of American President Donald Trump, Serbian Times contacted Aleksandar Jovičić, leader of the organization “Serbs for Trump”, which has been supporting and campaigning for the current president among citizens of Serbian origin in the USA for nine years.
“I was surprised when I heard the news that President Vučić was even coming to Florida to see President Trump, because I had no information that the visit was officially announced. When it was announced that he had returned to Serbia due to his health, I contacted people from Trump’s team with whom I have been cooperating for a long time, and that’s when I first found out what actually happened,” says Jovičić at the beginning of the conversation, who with his organization campaigned for Trump’s return to the White House last year.
“Then I found out that the president tried to enter a reception on the list of one of our people who are sponsors of Donald’s campaign, but under the false name Alex Vuči, which the protocol and Secret Service people established during the identification and asked Vučić to leave the presidential complex in Mar-a-Lago,” says our interlocutor, who adds that he received this information from people from Trump’s team whom he knows, whose names he did not want to reveal publicly.
He emphasizes that this is a major scandal and that it will certainly have an impact on future American-Serbian relations because it is prohibited under American law for foreign nationals to interfere in political relations in America, sponsor and support political parties and candidates (Law 52 USC 3081).
“I can perhaps understand that President Vučić does not know American laws, but it is simply unbelievable to me that none of his advisors from Belgrade or the embassy suggested that by appearing there he was breaking the law. Or at least some of those people from Chicago who invited him there and put him on their list. However, it is obvious that someone knew that things were not regular since he was registered under a false name. But then the question arises why he even agreed to such an arrangement as the president of a country whom someone is trying to sneak into an event like a parachutist,” Jovičić points out.
When asked what consequences this incident could have, he says:
“The worst was prevented, because if Vučić had by chance managed to enter that event under a false name, the candidate for governor Donalds might have been disqualified from the governor’s race for breaking the law and a major diplomatic scandal would have broken out. And great damage would have been done because he is truly the best candidate to replace Governor DeSantis in Florida and has the absolute support of our organization Serbs for Trump and the local Serbian community.
As it is, I expect that catastrophic consequences will be borne by Serbian-American relations, the state of Serbia, as well as the Serbian community in America, which has been trying with all its might to support Donald Trump as president and presidential candidate in recent years. Now we will have a big problem getting things back to the previous level because for some time everything we try will be in the great shadow of this incident, because our president tried to enter the private property of the American president under a false name,” our interlocutor is disappointed.
“Worst of all, this is just one in a series of things that are not in our favor, because Trump doesn’t forget anything and remembers very well who donated money to the Clintons in the 2016 campaign, who uses the services of the Democratic Party’s PR service in Washington, as well as what happened in the Dominion company in Banovo brdo in Belgrade, which made that famous software for counting votes in the 2020 elections, with the names of all the actors,” Aleksandar Jovičić from the organization “Serbs for Trump” concludes at the end of the conversation.
