A tram derailed in Zmaja od Bosne Street in the center of Sarajevo, resulting in one fatality.
“In a tram accident in the Central area, one person was killed. Two others were injured, according to current information. The prosecutor has been notified. Police officers are on the scene,” the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton (MUP KS) stated, as reported by Euronews.ba.
Photos from the scene show the tram lying on the road. Several ambulances are present, and eyewitnesses report that blood was visible at the site of the accident.
Firefighters from the Sarajevo Canton Fire Brigade were also on site and at one point cut the tram to extract an injured person.
The tram stop near the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina was also destroyed.
The derailment occurred near the United States Embassy in Sarajevo and the National Museum.
