It’s not uncommon for fans of European clubs to express support for the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, but it’s a real surprise when it comes from the Netherlands.

Last Thursday, football club Twente visited Piraeus, and at the match against Olympiacos, the visiting fans hung a “No Surrender” flag depicting the southern Serbian province in the colors of Serbia.

Such a move by the Dutch fans was met with a greeting from Olympiacos fans, who have a brotherly relationship with their colleagues from Red Star Belgrade.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that fans of the club from Enschede have tried to express their views on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija.

They did so for the first time back in 2009, and in 2017, during a Dutch league match, Twente fans unfurled a “Kosovo is Serbia” banner, and the club’s management punished the group that did so by banning them from attending matches.

However, Twente fans realized that they could express their views at least during away matches, so in 2022, at a match against Čukarički in Belgrade, a “No Surrender” flag was hung in the away section.
