Great Britain, Canada, and Australia recognized the state of Palestine today.
Great Britain recognized Palestine as an independent state today. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and ministers in his government concluded that the situation on the ground has worsened in recent weeks, which is why they decided on this move.
“Today, in order to revive the hope for peace for Palestinians and Israelis, and a two-state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognizes the State of Palestine,” Starmer said, as reported by Klix.
Ministers in the current British government claim they have a moral responsibility to act in order to maintain hope for a long-term peace agreement.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that Canada has just recognized Palestine.
This move came shortly after the same decisions were made by France and Great Britain, and Prime Minister Carney stated that Canada has always been committed to a two-state solution.
Carney believes that the Israeli government is methodically working to prevent the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state.
“It has been pursuing an unrelenting policy of settlement expansion on the West Bank, which is illegal under international law. The continuous attacks on Gaza have killed tens of thousands of civilians, displaced over a million people, and caused a devastating and preventable famine, in violation of international law. Now the declared policy of the current Israeli government is that ‘there will be no Palestinian state’,” Carney stated in a statement.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that a two-state solution is best for humanity in order to end the cycle of violence, suffering, and the voice in Gaza.
He stated that the recognition of Palestinian statehood is part of a coordinated effort by Canada and Great Britain and that it will form an “international effort for a two-state solution.”
