A fire broke out at the “Familija” restaurant in Banovo Brdo around 5 a.m. this morning. There is still no information about injuries.
The fire broke out at the intersection of Požeška and Kirovljeva streets near the market, and that part of the city was blocked, with tram and bus lines not operating.
Traffic toward Banovo Brdo is now moving smoothly, while Požeška Street toward Hipodrom is completely closed.
In the meantime, the fire has been localized, and the restaurant has completely burned down.
The fire was extinguished by 31 firefighters with 11 fire engines, and its spread was prevented.
The authorities have not yet commented on this matter.
As a reminder, the same establishment was the target of an attack on the night between September 28 and 29, around 3:30 a.m., and S.B. (26), who threw a bottle with a flammable liquid through a broken window, was arrested then.
The possibility that the fire was arson is not ruled out.
“Last Monday, September 29, the suspect Božidar S. (26) threw as many as two Molotov cocktails at the restaurant on Požeška Street. First, around 3:30 a.m., he threw a bottle with flammable liquid through a broken window and fled. Since no fire started, he returned a little later with another bottle and threw it into the cafe. However, he was caught in the act then, as the police were conducting an investigation following the report of the first attack. The suspect also tried to escape then, but police officers caught up with him and arrested him,” Kurir writes, citing a source and adding that:
Seven days ago, the restaurant sustained minor material damage, and there were no injuries then, just as there are none now.
-Operational information indicates that the suspect Božidar S. agreed to set fire to the well-known restaurant in Banovo Brdo for the sake of someone else. It is suspected that he agreed to this in order to have a debt written off – the Kurir source reminds.
As announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs after the arrest of the suspect Božidar S., he is also charged with arson in Voždovac on September 9.
-He is also suspected of setting fire to a catering facility in Vojvode Stepe Street – the police announced.
People living nearby the burned-out restaurant say they heard a loud detonation early this morning, and then saw flames.
-Something loud was heard cracking; at first I thought I was dreaming, but soon I saw a big flame through the window. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after – said a woman who lives near the scene of the event.
