Former Partizan goalkeeper Radiša Ilić (47) has committed suicide by jumping from the balcony of his apartment building. He played for the black-and-whites from Humska in two separate periods, first from 1998 to 2003 and then again from 2010 to 2013. He also made one appearance for the Serbian national A team.
In the summer of 2010, he was the only player for whom Partizan paid a transfer fee of 25,000 euros, but the team successfully qualified for the Champions League.
Ilić played throughout the qualification rounds and was part of the famous penalty shootout against Anderlecht, where the Belgian team missed three penalty kicks.
After that, he became a fan favorite among Partizan supporters, who chanted “You are the number one goalkeeper, Radiša” after the arrival of Vladimir Stojković.
Radiša Ilić was born in Bajina Bašta, where he started playing football before moving to Sloboda Užice, where he spent four years. His outstanding performances in Užice earned him a move to Partizan for the first time in 1998.
He played for five years at Humska before moving to Romania to join Nacional Bucharest. However, he soon returned to Serbia, signing with Borac Čačak, followed by a transfer to OFK Beograd, where he became the team’s captain.
He had another stint abroad, playing for Panserraikos in Greece, before returning to Borac Čačak and then rejoining Partizan for their Champions League campaign.
