Basketball players of Crvena Zvezda defeated Monaco in the ninth round of the Euroleague with a score of 98:90.
From the very start of the match, it could be seen that it would go in that direction. Monaco was the first to start hitting from a distance and after three minutes led 10:2, but immediately after the introductory timeout of Janis Sferopoulos, Crvena Zvezda responded. Just before the end of the first quarter, thanks to the incredible Filip Petrušev, the Belgrade club managed to briefly take the lead as well.
It wasn’t a big lead, it was one or two points, but Zvezda showed their teeth to Monaco and expressed their desire to potentially make a surprise tonight. So the first quarter ended in a draw, with as many as 52 points scored on both sides.

The attractive basketball continued in the second quarter. Monaco again managed to get some breathing room through Motiejunas and a very inspired Elijah Okobo, and even managed to pull away by eight points on a couple of occasions after mistakes made by Teodosić and Jago.
However, Zvezda did not give up at any moment and did not allow Monaco to go to a double-digit lead, so at the big break, the two teams were separated by six points (54:48).
The red-whites started the second half in a fantastic way. Filip Petrušev continued with excellent play, and important three-pointers by Rokas Giedraitis and the brilliant Kodi Miller-McIntyre followed. Zvezda managed to reach parity by the middle of the third quarter (60:60), and then to take the lead!
The red-whites were leading by +4 at that moment, however, at the very end of this period there was a slight drop in concentration, so Okobo’s basket made the score on the scoreboard as if the previous 30 minutes had not even been played. In other words – it was a draw and everything was completely open before the end of the match – 74:74!

Zvezda continued with excellent play in the last quarter and, thanks to the excellent Petrušev, but also Miloš Teodosić who hit two big three-pointers at that moment, managed to pull away by +8. That was of course a huge red light for Monaco coach Saša Obradović, who called a timeout.
Monaco managed to tighten up their defense a bit at that moment, as Zvezda missed two consecutive attacks. Monaco didn’t shine either, but at least they managed to get closer and to instill a little unrest in the red-whites’ game.
But even that didn’t shake Zvezda, who managed to go to +9 with a minute left in the game. It was then clear that the red-whites would have reasons to be happy in the Principality tonight. With a smile on their faces, they will travel to nearby Lyon, where a match against Asvel awaits them in two days.
