U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy for special missions, Richard Grenell, sent a message to the President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, regarding her support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following a verbal confrontation between Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday at the White House. Grenell emphasized that Slovenia is a NATO member that spends the least on defense and added that, as he pointed out, “nothing undermines the Alliance more than that.”
“In fact, you are one of the NATO members that spends the least on defense. You committed to paying two percent in 2014, yet you are now paying only 1.29 percent. Nothing undermines NATO more than not paying your fair share,” Grenell wrote on platform X, responding to Pirc Musar’s post in which she supported Zelensky.
Pirc Musar, following the heated exchange between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office, stated that Slovenia strongly supports Ukraine’s sovereignty.

“Slovenia supports the principles and respect for international law and international relations. What we witnessed in the Oval Office undermines these values and the foundations of diplomacy. We firmly support Ukraine’s sovereignty,” Pirc Musar said, among other things.
During the meeting at the White House, Zelensky engaged in a fierce argument with Trump and U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vens, who repeatedly accused him of being ungrateful for the support the U.S. has given Ukraine.
Zelensky then left the White House, and a planned signing ceremony for a rare minerals agreement, along with a joint press conference, was canceled.
