American billionaire Elon Musk has been in regular contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the end of 2022, the Wall Street Journal announced today.
As reported by the American newspaper, the two discuss personal matters, business topics and geopolitical tensions.
Several current and former officials from the USA, Europe and Russia confirmed that the talks are regular, according to the WSJ.
The article, which cites two sources, said Putin at one point asked Musk to refrain from activating the Starlink satellite internet service in Taiwan as a favor to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Musk became a major supporter of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump‘s campaign this year and could play a role in a future Trump administration if the Republican nominee is re-elected.

Although the US and its allies have worked to isolate Putin in recent years, Moscow’s dialogue with the Russian leader could signal a possible re-engagement of Trump in negotiations on critical issues, such as the war in Ukraine, according to the American newspaper.
The Wall Street Journal reports that such contacts in Joe Biden’s administration raise national security concerns.
The SpaceX owner has also established strong business ties with the US military and intelligence agencies, giving him insight into some of the most sensitive secrets of the US space program.
Musk’s contacts with the Kremlin appear to be a closely guarded secret within the government, and several White House officials have said they were unaware of them. Musk did not respond to requests for comment.
