Theologian Blagoje Panteli\u0107 said today that there are serious indications that Patriarch Porfirije kept for himself the money that believers donated at the Temple of Saint Sava during the veneration of the Holy Girdle of the Most Holy Theotokos from May 20 to June 5.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the announcement of a digital meeting between Patriarch Porfirije and Elder Ephraim, the abbot of Vatopedi Monastery, on Friday at 6:30 p.m., Panteli\u0107 said on the social network “X” that this would be an opportunity to reveal where the money from the believers’ donations for the Holy Girdle ended up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As announced, the topic of the conversation between Porfirije and Ephraim will be: “The Presence of the Holy Girdle of the Most Holy Theotokos in Serbia,” and after the conversation there will be time for questions and answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“An excellent opportunity for them to tell us where the money from citizens’ donations went? They promised that all the money would be donated to Serbs living in Kosovo and Metohija. If they did so, to whom, when, and how much did they pay? There are serious indications that Porfirije lied and kept that money,” Panteli\u0107 claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) has still not announced, even after five months, where it directed the donations from believers who venerated the Holy Girdle of the Most Holy Theotokos, intended for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and poor families elsewhere in Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Holy Girdle of the Most Holy Theotokos was displayed at the Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade from May 20 to June 5, 2026, after which it was returned to its home monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vatopedi Abbot Ephraim told the media at the time that all the money collected from believers in Belgrade would be distributed to Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Porfirije said that the voluntary donations would also be distributed to poor families throughout Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to information provided to the media by the SPC, 916,825 believers venerated the relic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most believers left between 200 and 2,000 dinars, suggesting that several hundred million dinars were collected during those days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 19, the Beta news agency asked the Office of Patriarch Porfirije to announce how much money had been collected through voluntary donations and how that money would be given to Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and poor families in Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To this day, the SPC has not responded to Beta journalists’ questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SPC has not announced that it has provided assistance to any poor families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
