Belgrade<\/a><\/em><\/strong> tabloids published an alleged Sky correspondence involving former President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro Vesna Medenica as evidence that Ilija Srdanovi\u0107, first on the list<\/em><\/strong> Students Win<\/a>, is \u201ca trusted man\u201d of Milo \u0110ukanovi\u0107. However, the disputed messages are dated a year after Sky ECC was shut down, while additional questions are raised by information about whom Medenica actually intended to seek medical treatment from in Serbia.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The alleged correspondence first appeared on social media and was subsequently republished by most Belgrade media outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presenting it as authentic correspondence that had been leaked to the public, the tabloids claim that the messages prove that Ilija Srdanovi\u0107 is \u0110ukanovi\u0107\u2019s man, and even that the correspondence itself is evidence of an organized \u201chybrid war\u201d and an attempt to influence the upcoming parliamentary elections in Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do the alleged Sky messages say?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the published messages, Vesna Medenica allegedly exchanges messages with a female colleague. In one of the messages, sent on March 22, 2022, Medenica says that she does not feel well and that she will come to Serbia \u201csoon because there is some doctor there who treats Milo, Srdanovi\u0107, one of ours whom we trust.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The surname Srdanovi\u0107 appears in another message that Medenica sent to the same person on March 24, 2022, in which she says that she has bought a ticket to Belgrade to see \u201cthat Srdanovi\u0107, Milo\u2019s man.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is precisely the dates on which the messages were sent that are disputed. As the Montenegrin portal Raskrinkavanje reports, at that time \u2014 from March 21, when the correspondence supposedly began, until March 24, when it supposedly ended \u2014 Sky had already been out of operation for quite some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More precisely, it had been out of operation for a full year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Namely, the major international operation against Sky ECC began on March 9, 2021, when Belgian authorities conducted more than 200 searches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europol<\/a> announced the following day that the authorities of Belgium, France and the Netherlands had managed to break the encryption of Sky ECC and had been monitoring the communications of around 70,000 users since mid-February. According to Europol, the aim of the operation was to block the further use of this encrypted communication system among major organized crime groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, March 9 was not the date when Sky was definitively shut down. Sky Global claimed at the time that its platform had not been compromised and attempted to continue providing the service. The final blow came about ten days later, after BlackBerry cut the company\u2019s access to the infrastructure necessary to manage the devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 19, 2021, Sky Global sent users a notification that the service would be shut down, effectively bringing Sky to an end as a functioning communications network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What did Medenica tell prosecutors about her trip to Serbia?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Another detail raises questions about the claim that Vesna Medenica intended to travel to Serbia specifically to see Ilija Srdanovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medenica was arrested on April 17, 2022, at Podgorica Airport, shortly before a trip to Belgrade. Before the special prosecutor, she explained why she was traveling to Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to prosecution documents reviewed by \u201cVijesti,\u201d Medenica said that she had experienced severe pain that day and had already been planning to travel to Serbia for treatment because she was \u201cvery resigned and disappointed with Montenegro\u2019s healthcare system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, in that statement she did not say that she was going to see Srdanovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the published portion of her statement, Medenica said that she had personal acquaintances among certain specialist doctors employed at the Dedinje Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases and that she had arranged by phone to go to that clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo carry out the treatment plan, she called her godfather, whose wife booked two tickets to Belgrade for her and him,\u201d the statement published by \u201cVijesti\u201d says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Srdanovi\u0107 does not work at Dedinje \u2014 Milovan Boji\u0107 does<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ilija Srdanovi\u0107 is not a doctor at the Dedinje Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases in Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to his official biography, he is employed at the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica, at the Cardiology Clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What may be an interesting detail, given that Medenica mentioned having personal acquaintances among doctors at the Dedinje clinic, is that the former president of the Supreme Court attended the opening of the \u201cDedinje 2\u201d Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases, whose director is Milovan Boji\u0107, her fellow native of Kola\u0161in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medenica and Boji\u0107 belong to the same Kola\u0161in regional and generational circle. Boji\u0107 is only two years older than her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her presence is also documented by footage from the opening ceremony, at which Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 also spoke. The ceremony was held on March 11, 2022, approximately one month before her arrest in Montenegro in April 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the only publicly available evidence pointing to a connection between Medenica and Boji\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three years later, on June 18, 2025, Medenica attended the promotion of Boji\u0107\u2019s autobiography, \u201cIt Was Not in Vain,\u201d held in the crypt of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a photograph published on the Instagram profile of the Cathedral, Medenica can be seen sitting in the row behind Milan Kne\u017eevi\u0107, leader of the DNP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
