Serbia Center (SRCE) said today that \u201cepic-scale theft\u201d through what it claims are rigged and financially inflated procurements of equipment and services, along with political favoritism in staffing and the elimination of experts, are the key reasons why the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) has gone from being an exporter to an importer of<\/em><\/strong> electricity.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SRCE\u2019s Energy and Mining Committee stated that, as a result, key overhauls of generating units have been postponed for years, while at the same time, it claims, the Kolubara<\/a> Mining Basin (RBK) has been destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee assessed that, when looking at the individuals involved, the \u201ckey line in the destruction of EPS\u201d is based around Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 and Milorad Gr\u010di\u0107, stating that Vu\u010di\u0107 appointed Gr\u010di\u0107 to head RBK in October 2012, where he remained until October 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSix months later, after Vu\u010di\u0107\u2019s \u2018Mi\u0107a\u2019 pushed the key system for lignite production in Serbia to start rolling and plunging into an abyss from which it has never returned to this day, he appointed him to the even more responsible position of EPS director,\u201d SRCE said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement adds that Gr\u010di\u0107 remained at the helm of EPS until January 2022, when, according to SRCE, problems at EPS during the winter of 2021\/2022 reached unprecedented levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SRCE also claims that the \u201cenormous import of coal,\u201d often, as it says, of questionable quality and quantity, as well as electricity imports, benefits electricity traders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVu\u010di\u0107\u2019s decades-long cooperation with his \u2018Mi\u0107a\u2019 gave rise to and paved the way for a new branch of the SNS economy \u2013 coal imports,\u201d Serbia Center said, adding that, according to its claims, Zvonko Veselinovi\u0107 took the leading position in coal imports for EPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe saga of Vu\u010di\u0107 and his \u2018Mi\u0107a\u2019 has catastrophic consequences for the citizens of Serbia that will take decades to remedy after they are gone. If Vu\u010di\u0107\u2019s era continues for some time yet, it is clear that not even a stone will be left standing of EPS,\u201d SRCE said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
