Mirsad A., owner of the \u201cBalkan-Grill\u201d restaurant in<\/em><\/strong> Vienna<\/a><\/em><\/strong> , has been arrested on suspicion of a series of criminal offenses, including<\/em><\/strong> fraud<\/a>, robbery and arson. One witness also helped shed light on the case.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After several months of investigation, prosecutors approved the arrest<\/a> of Mirsad A., who is accused of multiple criminal offenses, Austrian newspaper \u201cKrone\u201d reports, according to Crna hronika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blind customer left without almost \u20ac5,000<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the cases Mirsad A. is accused of involves a 71-year-old blind customer of the restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blind man filed a lawsuit against the \u201cBalkan Grillhaus\u201d establishment in Vienna after, according to his claims, a total of \u20ac4,933.33 was illegally charged to his bank card for several meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of his visual impairment, the 71-year-old regularly paid his bills by bank card, trusting the restaurant staff. During two weeks in May, he ate at the restaurant seven times, and on some occasions, increasingly larger amounts were allegedly deducted from his account instead of the actual bill. In one case, the amount reached as much as \u20ac2,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The alleged fraud was discovered only several weeks later, when he reviewed his bank statements together with his assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he realized that almost \u20ac5,000 was missing from his account, the 71-year-old allegedly collapsed and ended up in hospital, according to media reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The particularly distressing circumstance is that this was money he had saved for years to cover the costs of his own funeral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Owners claimed it was a technical error<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The family subsequently confronted the restaurant owners with the accusations. They initially claimed that the amounts were the result of technical errors, and later said that incorrect figures had been entered because of the \u201csmall buttons\u201d on the POS terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, according to Austrian media reports, bank statements show that the amounts were entered manually and became increasingly larger over time, further strengthening suspicions that it was an intentional fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former landlady makes new allegations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Following this case, Mirsad A.\u2019s former landlady also spoke to Austrian media, making new and considerably more serious allegations against his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She claims that they are a kind of \u201cBalkan clan,\u201d which she accuses of rental-related fraud, robberies and arson, as well as violating numerous administrative regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She signed a rental agreement with the family in February 2025, after which, according to her, the problems began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At an address in Floridsdorf, according to the landlady\u2019s claims, there was an arson attack, a robbery and rental-related fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They paid one month\u2019s rent, owed another 19<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

She claims that the family paid only one month\u2019s rent, while as many as 19 months\u2019 rent remained unpaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although she initiated eviction proceedings, the case fell through after the family, according to her allegations, managed to manipulate the authorities at the last minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, they accused the judge of bias, and then declared themselves a \u201csocial case\u201d and requested legal aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The landlady says that she and her father, who uses a wheelchair, live right next door, which made the situation particularly difficult for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire at the family\u2019s address<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During 2025, a fire broke out at an address used by the family, which the landlady claims was deliberately set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports, only the rapid intervention of firefighters prevented a catastrophe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the landlady\u2019s claims, the family used various methods to avoid responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suspected of faking a disability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The alleged ringleader, a 39-year-old man, appeared in a wheelchair and deliberately spoke incoherently, according to police records, allegedly attempting to justify his status as an early retiree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The landlady also claims that, with the help of accomplices, he dumped hundreds of kilograms of rotten meat in the house\u2019s yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, surveillance camera footage allegedly shows that he did not need a wheelchair in those situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She handed the footage over to police. After that, according to her claims, Mirsad A. sat back in his wheelchair and then destroyed the surveillance cameras with a cane and hammer, allegedly laughing as he did so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Landlady claims she suffered \u20ac150,000 in damages<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The landlady claims that everything that has happened has caused her approximately \u20ac150,000 in damages so far, not including costs related to the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
