Retired General Miljenko Filipovi\u0107 caused a traffic accident yesterday in Zapre\u0161i\u0107 while under the influence of alcohol, in which a 56-year-old female driver was seriously injured, Index reported today.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the accident, Filipovi\u0107 resigned as president of the HDZ Veterans’ Community \u201cGojko \u0160u\u0161ak,\u201d HDZ spokesperson Zoltan Kabok confirmed. He did not answer the question of whether Filipovi\u0107 would remain a party member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police had previously announced, without naming him, that a 61-year-old driver had 1.42 promille of alcohol in his blood. According to Index, this was precisely Filipovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During overtaking, he hit two cars<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The accident occurred yesterday at around 8:25 p.m. Filipovi\u0107 was driving a \u201cMitsubishi\u201d with Zagreb license plates. He moved into the traffic lane intended for vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. During overtaking, he failed to maintain the required distance and hit a \u201cMercedes\u201d driven by an 89-year-old man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After overtaking, he did not return to his traffic lane but collided with an \u201cAlfa Romeo\u201d driven in the opposite direction by a 56-year-old woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The force of the collision sent the \u201cAlfa Romeo\u201d and \u201cMitsubishi\u201d onto the curb, while the \u201cMercedes\u201d hit a metal trash bin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woman seriously injured<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The woman driving the \u201cAlfa Romeo\u201d was seriously injured and received medical treatment at a hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Filipovi\u0107 suffered minor injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is Miljenko Filipovi\u0107?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Miljenko Filipovi\u0107 was born in 1965 in Tomislavgrad, and before the war in Croatia he was a member of the French Foreign Legion. At the beginning of the war, he returned to Croatia, where he became deputy commander and then commander of the special unit \u201cBojna Zrinski,\u201d and later commander of the First Croatian Guards Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Filipovi\u0107 had been at the head of the HDZ Veterans’ Community \u201cGojko \u0160u\u0161ak\u201d since 2014, and was re-elected to the position in November 2025. It had previously been reported that he was close to Tomislav Karamarko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
