A protest by transport operators will be held tomorrow in Sarajevo in front of the headquarters of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, due to restrictions on the stay of professional drivers from these countries in the Schengen zone.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nikola Brkovi\u0107, a member of the \u201cLogistika BiH\u201d Consortium, told the Srna news agency that a gathering is planned in front of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly building at 11 a.m., while at 11:30 a.m. the protest convoy will head toward the EU Delegation headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe protest will begin at 12 p.m., and at the same time a protest drive involving trucks will be organized through Sarajevo,\u201d Brkovi\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that transport operators want to show in this way that they will not give up their demands, namely that drivers from BiH and the region should not be treated as tourists or migrants in EU countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that protests will also be organized in Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia, ahead of the European Commission session on September 1 in Brussels, where the main topic will be Western Balkan transport operators whose stay in the Schengen zone is being restricted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf nothing is resolved on September 1 and we receive a negative response from Brussels, we will organize protests at all border crossings with the EU planned for September 14,\u201d Brkovi\u0107 stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport operators from Serbia, BiH, Montenegro and North Macedonia are demanding that the EU respond to their request for professional drivers to receive conditions of stay adapted to the specific nature of their work, rather than being allowed to stay in the Schengen zone for only 90 days within a 180-day period, as if they were ordinary tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is emphasized that professional drivers do not stay in Schengen countries as tourists, but because of work, which is why they believe they should not be treated in the same way as travelers arriving for tourist or private visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
