The European Democrats commented on the incidents in U\u017eice, saying that police officers remained passive in the face of unprecedented violence and that the clashes are the worst possible start to an election campaign.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday in U\u017eice, Serbia, police officers were removing demonstrators from Partizanska Square ahead of an SNS rally attended by Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107, using tear gas, while remaining passive in the face of unprecedented violence,\u201d the European Democrats wrote on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They recalled that Serbia is heading toward early parliamentary elections in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cViolence and clashes are the worst possible start to an election campaign. Vu\u010di\u0107 is showing himself to be someone who is unable \u2013 or unwilling \u2013 to guarantee a fair, orderly and democratic electoral contest,\u201d they stressed, concluding that Serbia deserves a free and dignified democratic process, not this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us recall that an SNS rally was held in U\u017eice today, where President Vu\u010di\u0107 also delivered a speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the day, police pushed back dissatisfied citizens who organized a counter-rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several physical clashes occurred between citizens and police, as well as between citizens and SNS supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was reported that one man was attacked by an SNS steward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
