It is unclear why pro-government media are criticizing Ivica Da\u010di\u0107 so harshly, because he did not announce that he was joining the opposition, but that the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), as before, would not run in elections on the list led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). Only the naive can believe that he has switched sides<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ivica Da\u010di\u0107’s decision that the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) will run in the upcoming elections \u201cindependently,\u201d i.e. that it will not be on the coalition list led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), has triggered unusually fierce reactions. Especially since the Socialists have not changed their electoral strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In media close to the authorities, it almost immediately acquired a much more serious meaning: Da\u010di\u0107 began to be portrayed as a politician distancing himself from Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107, while SPS is increasingly being described as a possible \u201cTrojan horse of the blockader opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Informer writes that Da\u010di\u0107’s move is connected to Branko Ru\u017ei\u0107 and his views on the student blockades. In the tabloid’s article, Da\u010di\u0107’s decision is presented not merely as an attempt by SPS to preserve its own political position by running independently, but as a possible part of a broader political plan in which the Socialists could serve as a \u201cTrojan horse\u201d for the blockaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Da\u010di\u0107 is thus transformed from a party leader attempting to run independently in the elections into a politician who is allegedly opening the door to opponents of the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this narrative, Branko Ru\u017ei\u0107 is given a particularly prominent role, while his previous statements about students and blockades are brought to the forefront in order to portray the change in SPS’s course as something much deeper than an electoral tactic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politika also writes about a possible new course for SPS, through a headline linking Da\u010di\u0107 and Ru\u017ei\u0107 with the party’s \u201cchange of course\u201d and \u201copen doors\u201d for the blockaders. Politika states that there is no confirmation that SPS is negotiating a coalition with the \u201cblockaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
