The Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Croatian National Tourist Board confirmed that Dragana Ante\u0161evi\u0107 (34) from Kotor Varo\u0161 in Republika Srpska died in the catastrophic<\/strong><\/em> fire<\/strong><\/em><\/a> in the Omi\u0161 area. She was working in the Omi\u0161 area as a seasonal worker and disappeared on August 13 in Stani\u0107i while fleeing the fire. Her body was found at the fire site yesterday morning.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to information that emerged after her disappearance, Ante\u0161evi\u0107 was in a car with two other people as they attempted to flee the flames. At one point, she got out of the vehicle, and all trace of her was lost from that moment. Her family provided DNA samples, while her husband arrived in Croatia<\/a>. “We express our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the Ministry and HTZ said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, due to the high level of interest from foreign media in the fire in the Omi\u0161 area, MINTS and HTZ held an online meeting with directors of HTZ offices in eight important source markets \u2013 Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and the United Kingdom. It was agreed that throughout the day, the offices would convey official information about the situation in Croatia to media outlets and partners in their respective markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a message addressed to foreign media, it was stated that the competent services responded in a timely manner and that tourists who needed assistance were taken care of. “After a difficult night and an emergency situation caused by the major fire in the Omi\u0161 area and its surroundings, the situation on the ground is gradually stabilizing. The competent services and institutions remain on the ground, monitoring the situation and taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of people and property,” MINTS and HTZ said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They expressed their “sincere condolences to the family of the deceased citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina” and “deep regret over the tragic consequences” of the fire. They wished everyone who was injured or affected by the fire a speedy and successful recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All tourists who needed assistance have been taken care of<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry and HTZ stated that since the beginning of the emergency, in cooperation with local authorities and the tourism sector, they have been actively involved in providing assistance to tourists affected by the fire. They stressed that all tourists who needed assistance have been taken care of, while hotel rooms in Split-Dalmatia County were provided for those who needed alternative accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The situation is gradually returning to normal, while tourism activities in most of the destination are proceeding without disruption. Croatia remains open and ready to welcome its guests, with continuous monitoring of the situation and full cooperation among all competent services and the tourism sector,” they said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MINTS and HTZ also stated that the timely response of the competent services confirms the system’s ability to quickly provide assistance and protect people in emergency situations. They particularly thanked firefighters, police, civil protection services, healthcare workers, local authorities, the tourism sector and everyone involved in protecting people, homes and property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 12,000 tourists were in the area<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Minister of Tourism and Sports Ton\u010di Glavina announced yesterday, after a meeting of the Civil Protection Headquarters in Omi\u0161, that around 200 rooms had been secured for tourists from the areas affected by the fire in cooperation with HTZ. According to data presented at the Headquarters, around 12,000 tourists were staying in the area at the time of the fire. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, is assisting foreign tourists, including by providing accommodation, organizing their return to their home countries and communicating with diplomatic missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
