On this day, for the previous 26 years, EXIT began. \u201cAt this time, we would usually be rushing around the Fortress, finishing the final works, preparing to open the gates at 7 PM and welcome you with a big smile,\u201d the EXIT organization announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, there is none of that, they stated in a statement which we are publishing in full:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are no EXIT flags around the city. There are no tens of thousands of guests from all over the world. There is no euphoria. There is none of what our city and country were known for around the planet. The EXIT festival has essentially been banned in Serbia because we chose not to remain silent. To stand with the youth and the ideals that created us. We were founded 26 years ago as a movement of young people who believed that this country could be better, more open and freer. That is why today, even though it is not starting at the Fortress, EXIT continues to exist where it was created \u2013 in the hearts of all of us who refuse to accept fear, silence and darkness. From there, EXIT\u2019s energy continues to travel across Europe and the world, through many new encounters and great locations. However, there is only one home of EXIT and we believe that we will see each other again at the Fortress, when we all together bring freedom back to our country. EXIT is not starting today because the gates of freedom in this country are currently closed. We will open them soon, all together, because STUDENTS ARE WINNING!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us remind you, for the first time this year, the EXIT festival will not open its gates at the Petrovaradin Fortress after 26 years, due to, as the organizers say, a series of political pressures because of its support for student protests. The EXIT festival was recently held in Ulcinj and Be\u010di\u0107i, in Montenegro.
