The Pharmaceutical Chamber of Serbia announced on its official website that, following a recent public statement regarding medicine prices and the reaction of a large number of its members, it considers it its duty to remind the public of the fundamental principles on which the pharmaceutical profession is based, emphasizing that the role of pharmacists must be clearly recognized and respected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, while presenting a new package of economic measures, Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 also announced price reductions for certain medicines, displaying them publicly in the process. According to critics, this is contrary to the Law on Medicines and Medical Devices, which prohibits the advertising of medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Tuesday, the Pharmaceutical Chamber of Serbia published a statement on its website that does not explicitly mention President Vu\u010di\u0107 or his public address. However, it notes that, “following the public statement regarding medicine prices and the reaction of a large number of its members,” the Chamber considers it its obligation to reiterate the core principles of the pharmaceutical profession, N1 reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement emphasizes that it is particularly important for the public to consistently recognize and respect the role of pharmacists as healthcare professionals, as well as the importance of pharmacies as healthcare institutions within the country’s healthcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Pharmacists are healthcare professionals who perform their duties in accordance with the law, professional standards, and the Code of Ethics, with the aim of protecting the health and safety of patients. A pharmacy is not merely a place where medicines are dispensed, but a healthcare institution where citizens receive professional advice, pharmaceutical services, and support in the proper and safe use of therapy. A pharmacy is not a store, and medicine is not merchandise,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Pharmaceutical Chamber of Serbia adds that this is precisely why it considers it especially important for public communication concerning medicines to be responsible, accurate, and fully compliant with existing regulations, in order to prevent the misinterpretation of information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The Pharmaceutical Chamber of Serbia reminds the public that the dissemination of information about medicines is regulated by applicable legislation, whose consistent implementation is essential for protecting patients and maintaining public trust in the healthcare system. Mutual respect among all healthcare professions and responsible public communication are essential prerequisites for preserving the reputation of the healthcare system and strengthening citizens’ confidence in healthcare professionals,” the statement emphasizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Pharmaceutical Chamber of Serbia concluded by stating that, as the professional organization representing pharmacists, it will continue to advocate for the interests of its members, work to improve the standing of the pharmaceutical profession, and cooperate with all relevant institutions in order to enhance healthcare for the citizens of the Republic of Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
